Why Kernel Synclab exists

The practice began after its founder, Mara Vogel, spent years supporting internationally recruited engineers and researchers through onboarding in Berlin. The same pattern kept appearing: people had excellent professional preparation but were left to infer the relationship among a residence title, a lease, registration, insurance, and a first payslip.

Kernel Synclab was formed as a small advisory practice to make that early sequence understandable. “Kernel” refers to the essential facts at the centre of a move; “Synclab” reflects the work of aligning dates, documents, people, and public offices. It is a name, not a software product.

Mara has worked in international employee mobility and destination support since 2017. Her experience includes pre-arrival briefings, municipal registration preparation, family landing plans, and coordination with employers, sworn translators, insurance advisers, and immigration counsel.

She works in English and German and completes annual professional development on German mobility practice and data protection. She is not a Rechtsanwältin and does not present practical guidance as legal advice.

How we work

Separate fact from assumption

German procedures vary by residence route, city, and household. We label what an official source says, what follows from ordinary practice, and what only the responsible authority can decide.

Start with dependencies

A neat checklist can still be in the wrong order. We ask which later step depends on an address, original certificate, insurance confirmation, appointment, or employer document.

Collect less personal data

Early planning seldom requires passport scans. We ask for the minimum information needed to understand a case and direct sensitive legal questions to an appropriate protected relationship.

Respect the life around the paperwork

A move is also a partner leaving work, a child entering school, a pet crossing a border, or a professional learning a new workplace culture. We keep the plan realistic for the household carrying it.

Our relationship with clients

Advice is collaborative. You remain responsible for applications, official statements, and decisions. We provide preparation, questions, references, and a calm view of the next step. When a case crosses into immigration law, tax, regulated qualification recognition, or financial advice, our useful answer is a boundary and a referral category—not a guess.
